The Bay Gun Club was organized in late 1950’s and by 1959 it was an NRA affiliated club with approximately 75 members with a 100 member limit. It also included a NRA sponsored Jr. Club which had up to 40 or so members and was very important to the Sr. Club membership. Meetings were held at the Point Comfort City Hall auditorium. The first range was on the Perry Haskin Ranch in the Port Alto-Olivia area. Some years later it was relocated to the Dick Traylor property outside Point Comfort, and then to its present location off Loop 1090. The range is owned by the City of Port Lavaca and shared with the Port Lavaca Police Department and other law enforcement personnel under the direction of the Police Chief and Fire Chief and the City Manager. Meetings were moved and held in the first State Bank community room. Some of the people and contractors involved in constructing and building ranges were Wayne Lindsey, Tony Holida, Felipe Gonzales, Rexco Co., BHB Machine Works with many members contributing down through the years. Some of which, past & present were: George Hart, Crawford Baker, George Smith, Don Larkin, Dr. Bonar, Dr. Heckrodt, Al Rambiken, Sam, McReynolds, Roy Alexander, Glynn Palmer, Pete Kirby, Shorty Steen, Ed, Taylor, L.A.
